You can spend a whole morning circling Novalja in July looking for a spot, and nobody on holiday wants that. The good news: parking here is very manageable once you know how it works, where the pressure points are, and when to simply leave the car behind.
How parking works in Novalja
Public parking in town is regulated under the town’s traffic decision. Public areas can be paid or free, and the operator that organises and collects parking is Arburoža d.o.o. Novalja. A paid zone must have a clearly visible sign showing its working hours and hourly price, so the sign is your best source: read it before you walk away from the car. There are defined price categories and seasonal tickets, and the current price list is published by the town. We deliberately do not quote tariffs here, because they are set per zone and per season – check the sign or the town’s published list for the current figure.

When it gets tight
Parking is one of the real daily headaches in Novalja, especially in July and August. The centre is small, the waterfront fills up by mid-morning, and evenings around the harbour are busy. A few habits make life easier:
- Arrive early or go late. Mornings before the beach crowd and later in the evening are the easy windows.
- Park once and walk. Novalja’s centre is compact; park on the edge and stroll in rather than chasing a space by the promenade.
- Keep small change and your phone ready, and photograph your ticket and the zone sign in case of a dispute.
- Never block driveways or tight lanes in older streets – they are narrow and tow-away is a real possibility.
Parking for the beaches
Most of Novalja’s beaches sit roughly one to three kilometres from town and have regulated parking areas nearby. Tree-shaded Straško is a good example of a beach you can reach by car, bike or on foot from the centre. On the hottest weekends the lots by the most popular beaches fill early, so a bicycle or a short walk often beats driving. Our guide to the beaches near town helps you choose one that suits how you are travelling.

Parking at Zrće
Zrće has a large parking zone, and it is the busiest spot on Pag in peak season, particularly on festival weekends. If you are heading there at night, plan your return: the safest answer is not to drive at all after a night out. Taxis and shuttles run between town and the beach in season, and Zrće is only a few kilometres from Novalja, so leaving the car at your accommodation is usually the smart play. More about the clubs, beaches and practicalities is in our Zrće Beach guide, and the events calendar shows which nights will be busiest.
The easiest fix: sleep where you can park
If you are bringing a car in high season, the single best move is to choose accommodation with its own parking space. It removes the daily hunt and any extra cost. Browse where to stay in Novalja and ask your host to confirm parking before you book. And if you are still planning the drive itself, see how to get to Novalja.
